What will I
encounter when I come to Discovery?
At Discovery our aim is to be an exciting, uplifting,
and relevant. Our Sunday services seek to live out this
goal by providing uplifting music in a contemporary
style. We also incorporate many visual elements in order
to provide an exciting atmosphere where all people from
all backgrounds can explore and grow in their faith.
Some of these elements include, testimonies, videos,
drama and creative arts. There is a time during our
service for participatory singing but you are welcome to
join in or just listen and enjoy the music. Finally our
desire is that you will experience relevant teaching
from God’s Word that is designed to help all people no
matter where they are at on their faith journeys to
understand and incorporate the timeless truths of God’s
Word into their lives where they live, work and play!
I see that you meet on
Sunday evenings instead of Sunday mornings why the
switch?
In June of 2006 we made
the effort to survey our surrounding communities in
face-to-face conversations. The responses we received
were amazing, as people felt the freedom to speak their
minds, about faith and the church. As we reviewed the
results of this survey a couple of predominant themes
emerged. First, people in our communities told us that
they might be willing to attend church today but for
most of them the time was a challenge. People today live
busy lives, and more often than not they find themselves
working 6 days a week. Many young families told us that
because of that they wanted to spend some time with
their children on Sunday mornings rather than having to
get out of bed to go to church. The other theme that
rose to the surface was one that has been said many
times in many ways. The people who responded simply
stated that they would be more willing to hear what the
church had to say if they saw the church more visibly
living out its beliefs in our communities. These two
main lines of thinking started us on a journey of
evaluation and prayer. We wanted to know how to respond
to these perspectives. After much soul searching by our
pastor and the leadership of Discovery, we decided to
attempt to do something different, and that something
different was to move our main service time to Sunday
evening. This allows us to provide an alternative to the
Sunday morning issue, but more importantly it allows us
to become more interactive in our communities on Sunday
mornings and other times when appropriate. This move has
been both challenging and exciting at the same time and
we are really looking forward to what God is going to do
in our community of faith as we seek to fulfill some of
the needs around us!
Will I have to dress up?
That is always a great question because nothing can
cause a person to feel out of place more than arriving
somewhere and being under or over dressed! At Discovery
we encourage people to come to church dressed casually
for good reason! We believe that it is not about what we
wear when we gather on Sunday mornings; rather it is all
about where our hearts are! So when you walk thru the
doors of Discovery Church you will find people dressed
in all sorts of styles and manners in a comfortable and
casual atmosphere.
How long will your service
last?
Our service starts promptly at 5:00pm and run until
6:30pm. The service itself will be about 1 hour and 20
minutes long followed by a time to gather with other
people around a good cup of coffee and a wide variety of
snacks.!
Is this a Christian church?
Yes most definitely! Even though we meet in a school and
are casual in our in style at Discovery we are deeply
committed to the eternal truths of the Christian faith.
Our goal is to radically transform people’s lives for
Jesus Christ in the Pitt Meadows area and beyond! As a
church we belong to the B.C. Conference of Mennonite
Brethren Churches, which is affiliated with the Canadian
Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. Therefore we
believe and abide by the confession of faith of the
Canadian MB Conference, which you can check out by going

Canadian Conference of MB Churches.
